The Department of Arts and Design in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites qualified artists from around the world for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Western Painting. The newly formed Department of Arts and Design at the University of Macau consists of a team of prestigious art historians and practicing artists and hence emphasizes on both artistic research and artistic creation. In line with Macao’s special position in the world, the department encourages faculty members to engage in active artistic and academic pursuits that cut across the boundaries between the traditional and the contemporary, between China and the world.

Qualifications

Applicants should have: 1. expertise in painting in western mediums, including but not limited to oil, tempera, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and mixed mediums; 2. an international reputation for her/his works and practices; 3. terminal degree in Fine Arts or related areas; 4. a good record of exhibitions and experience in teaching and supervising master and doctoral students. Preference will be given to those with a wide array of approaches to painting. Proficiency in English is required, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty as early as June 2024.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approx. USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approx. USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
