The Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) (https://ias.um.edu.mo/) is an academic unit established under the University of Macau (UM) towards the end of 2019. It is committed to building a university-level, cross-faculty research platform to help the UM develop world-class inter-disciplinary research teams in humanities and social sciences. The IAS also manages an academic journal, the South China Quarterly: Journal of University of Macau (SCQJUM), and aims to foster the international development of the journal, gauging the future operation in a systematic and sustainable manner. The research staff members are expected to assist in the research publications of SCQJUM managed by the editorial office and engage in other research activities of the institute. To cope with the latest need and development, IAS is particularly interested in recruiting the below personnel with an initial appointment up to 2 years with a possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.

Qualifications

  • Research Assistant Professor:
  1. A doctoral degree in humanities and social sciences, or related disciplines;
  2. Proven record of excellent research achievements, including publications, patents, presentations, and academic awards;
  3. Extensive research and journal editing experience in areas of humanities and social sciences;
  4. Experience in coordinating and organizing academic activities;
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the superior.
  • Post-doctoral Fellow:
  1. A doctoral degree in humanities and social sciences, or related disciplines;
  2. Proven record of outstanding research achievements, including publications, patents, presentations, and academic awards;
  3. Research and journal editing experience in areas of humanities and social sciences is preferable;
  4. Experience in coordinating and organizing academic activities;
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the superior.

Remuneration

Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
