The Residential College system

The Residential College system is a comprehensive community-based educational platform that embodies the University’s 4-in-1 education model and student-centered philosophy of whole-person education. The College system provides students with an experiential curriculum designed to promote whole-person education, enabling them to position themselves as individuals with firm roots in Macao, while at the same time being committed to participating in the development of the Greater Bay Area, as well as integrating themselves into national development while reaching out to the world. The residential academic staff, including the Associate Master, will have close interaction with the students towards the realization of a multifaceted and holistic whole-person education. Currently there are 10 residential colleges on the campus aiming to accommodate around 5,000 undergraduate students. The Associate Master

Report to the College Master, the Associate Master will deputize for him/her to manage general operations of the college and oversee student life and study. He/she will reside in a college to deliver UM’s residential college education including teaching residential college credit-bearing courses, providing pastoral care and academic support to students, administering student discipline, as well as supervising or organizing inter-college academic tutorial programs in the college. While the working language is English, the successful applicants must be able to work comfortably and effectively in a linguistic environment where most staff and students are Chinese-speakers in Cantonese and Mandarin. Where appropriate, the appointee may be considered for concurrent affiliation with an academic unit. Engagement in educational research and publication pertaining to residential college is encouraged. The initial appointment is up to three years and renewal is subject to mutual agreement.

In particular, the candidates should have the following credentials:

  1. An earned doctorate degree;
  2. Good understanding of the recent development in the Greater Bay Area to assist the College system in enhancing career planning services;
  3. Previous administrative and management experience in a higher education institution;
  4. Candidates with professional knowledge in career planning and experience in organizing student activities or providing pastoral care services to students are preferred;
  5. Fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), knowledge of other languages will be an advantage;
  6. Able to live in the Residential College and carry out duties as assigned.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund and other subsidies.
