The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Head of Department.

The department currently offers broad-based curricula leading to BA, MA and PhD degrees embracing the full range of the field, including: Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Mass Communication, New Media, Media and Cultural Studies, Cinema, International and Intercultural Communication, and Media Production.
Head of Department
The Faculty wishes to make a strategic appointment at a senior level that can both contribute to and complement existing departmental emphases. While the post is open to applications from any area of media and communication, we are especially interested in candidates with leading international reputations whose academic expertise is relevant to the concerns of Macao and the Greater China region. The candidates should possess:
• A PhD degree in the area of media and communication;
• Expertise and knowledge in one or more sub-disciplines such as research methodology, journalism, advertising, public relations, new media, and/or international/intercultural communication;
• An outstanding record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship;
• Record of effective teaching;
• Demonstrable competence in management, planning, and communication; and
• Ability to play a leadership role in the Department.
Proficiency in English is required as it is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage.
Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
