English Language Teaching Assistant

The English Language Centre (ELC) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) is seeking qualified individuals for the position of ‘English Language Teaching Assistant’ (ELTA). The main tasks of the ELTA include: a) handling tutorial sessions for writing and speaking; b) leading Talk-time sessions with undergraduate students; c) participating in and hosting promotional activities for UM Open Day, the English Festival, and other activities; and d) organizing and implementing creative educational activities for undergraduate students in English. Initial appointment is for 12 months with a possibility of a second contract upon mutual agreement.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a recent (obtained within the last two years) Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. English Studies, English Education, TEFL/TESL or Applied Linguistics) from an accredited programme as well as experience in organizing language learning activities. Applicants should have their degree in hand upon application.

The successful candidates also need to possess the following abilities: strong ability to work well as a writing and speaking tutor, ability to work independently, strong sense of responsibility, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, excellent command of English, creativity, and ability to work well in a team. Knowledge of teaching pedagogy will be an advantage and graduates of English Studies and English Education are preferred.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty on 3 August 2020.

Remuneration
The taxable salary level shall be determined according to the appointee’s academic qualifications, current position, and professional experience ranging from MOP10,547 to MOP15,820 (USD1 approx. =MOP8). Basic medical benefits are also available at a low cost.

The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5%-7% after various discretionary exemptions.
