Director of Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre

The Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching Training Centre is under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The primary goals of this Centre include: 1) establishing a link with Portuguese-speaking countries in the training of Portuguese instructors with a special focus on the training of bilingual professionals; 2) developing research in the area of Portuguese teaching and Sino-Portuguese culture in partnership with Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries; and 3) promoting intercultural communication between Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries.
We are seeking a visionary leader to assume the role of Director of the Centre. The incumbent of the position will provide strategic leadership and steer the Centre to new heights. Specific job duties include: 1) developing and implementing the Centre’s strategic plan, setting long-term goals for teaching, training and research; 2) designing, developing and overseeing innovative training programmes for Portuguese instructors and Chinese-Portuguese bilingual professional; 3) fostering a vibrant environment for collaborative cultural projects with partners in Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries; 4) establishing and maintaining strong relationships with universities and cultural organizations in both Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Qualifications
1. A PhD in a closely related field; 2. native or near-native proficiency in both Putonghua and Portuguese; 3) demonstrated experience in designing and delivering teacher training or professional development programmes; 4) an established network with academic and/or professional institutions in Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries. 5) excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills; and 6) a track record in promoting Chinese-Portuguese bilingualism and cultural exchange between Chinese Mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty as early as in autumn 2026.
Remuneration
The successful applicant will receive a taxable annual remuneration commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor, starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980), based on the qualifications and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
