The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized research-oriented comprehensive public university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Leveraging its ‘4-in-1’ model of education and residential college system, UM provides all-round undergraduate education, nurturing talent to support social and economic development in MSAR and the GBA as a whole. In addition, UM is currently establishing a campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, which is expected to be operational in 2028. It may be noted that English is the working language and the primary medium of instruction at UM.

The Academic Affairs Office (AAO) is committed to supporting UM’s goals of becoming an outstanding, internationally-recognized institution of higher learning and learner-centered education. AAO is now inviting applications for the position of Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will assist in research projects and activities, including but not limited to data collection, analysis, and documentation, which are mainly related to the establishment of a Faculty of Design at the UM new Campus in Hengqin.

The initial appointment is on 12-month basis with a possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or above in Design or related disciplines;
  2. Working experience in research center or education institution, particularly in the field of Blind Art, Touch Art, Art Healing, Barrier-Free Design;
  3. Familiarity with higher education setting in Mainland China or Macau SAR would be an advantage;
  4. Proficient in research tools and skills, including 3D modeling software and image software (Rhino/ SketchUp/ Keyshot/ Adobe software);
  5. Proficient in operating woodshop equipment, CNC, 3D printers, hand tools, and other equipment for art and design research prototyping;
  6. Familiar with research areas of touch-based exhibition curatorial methods and urban art renewal practice;
  7. Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin);
  8. Highly self-initiative and responsible, with the ability to work independently;
  9. Able to commute to Hengqin frequently to fulfill assigned duties.

Remuneration

Remuneration is on 12-month basis and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
