Research Staff

The Educational Testing and Assessment Research Center (ETARC) in the Faculty of Education is committed to conducting measurement and evaluation studies in Macao, the Greater Bay Area, China, and internationally. Since its founding, ETARC has been responsible for the Macao’s participation in PISA, TIMSS and PIRLS, and been a founding member of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Alliance for Educational Quality Monitoring and Evaluation. ETARC invites applications for the position of Research Assistant to assist research in the Trend in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2027. Responsibilities include assisting in the management and execution of a large sample survey, following the scheduled timeline and adhering to rigorous technical standards.

Initial appointment is up to 12 months with a possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and funding availability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in mathematics, science, computer and data science related area;
  • Experiences in basic education research and/or teaching at the basic education level in Macao will be an advantage;
  • Ability to administer standardized educational assessments within local school contexts and utilize a range of data collection tools, including Microsoft Access, Excel, and Google Forms;
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin);
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work well within a team environment;
  • Strong sense of responsibility, good interpersonal skills, proactive, and detail-oriented;
  • Adaptable and productive in dynamic work environments and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in January 2026.

Remuneration

Remuneration offered will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
